A  copy of Tromlitz flute in St.Petersburg, Russia, made of mammoth tusk, by Felix Ravdonikas

FLUTE after TROMLITZ - copy by Felix Ravdonikas, made out of Mammoth tusk.
This flute is a copy of the original Tromlitz flute in St. Petersburg museum in Russia made by  late flute maker Felix Ravdonikas of Lithuania in 1970s. This beautiful traverso is unplayed and in mint condition. The sound in this instrument is mellow and soft in all registers. No cracks or any other blemishes on the flute. Mammoth tusk is really pretty material and at least 15000-20000 years of age. This material is not forbidden like many other ivory. It is very expensive today because it has replaced the elephant ivory in art carvings and jewellery. This flute is a rarity and probably there is no other like this.
P.O.A

20000 vuotta vanha materiaali.

Johann Crone, Leipzig Germany, Ivory Flute from  1750-60, This flute is needing a complete restoration. There are additional keys on the instrument by later maker, which are now taken apart for rebuild. This is a valuable flute though and tells us a lot of flute making during those days. As far as I know this is the only original existing Boehm flute for sale at the moment.
The flute is in an excellent state of preservation.
P.O.A

Alkuperäinen Th. Böhmin rakentama sylinterihuilu.
Tehty luultavasti cocospuusta. Hopeiset läpät ja kultaiset jouset. Huilussa on avoin Gis-läppä, Böhmin peukaloläppä,
C-jalka ja alkuperäinen kotelo.Signeeraus vain  suukappaleen kruunussa.
Tämä huilu on esitelty Philip Youngin tärkeitten puupuhaltimien kirjassa sekä Ludwig Böhmin alkuperäisten Bohm-huilujen listauksessa. Böhmin
alkuperäinen tyynysarja ja sormitustaulukot myös
nähtävissä.
.Tietääkseni tämä huilu on ainoa alkuperäinen Böhmin
rakentama huilu myynnissä koko maailmassa. Erityisen
harvinaiseksi tämän huilun tekee signeeraus, joka on
ainoastaan Böhmin tekemä. Böhmillä oli 1860-luvulla
sopimus huilunrakentaja Mendlerin kanssa siitä, että
kaikki huilut signeerataan nimellä Böhm- Mendler.
Vielä Böhmin kuoltua Mendler nimikoi huilut mainitulla
tavalla.
Huilu on siis äärimmäisen harvinainen ja loistavassa
soittokunnossa.

Panaulon flute by Johann Ziegler in Vienna, Austria

JOHANN ZIEGLER, Vienna 1830-40  Panaulon-flute going to low G. This is an exceptional instrument. The lower end ( foot joint ) of the flute is bent to U-form to get the compass to the low G like in a violin. Really unusual mechanism with pewter plugs in most of the keys. A device to change the tuning while playing . One key missing. Fine ebony tubing with ivory rings and probably silver keys. Original (tatty ) case. The flute is in an unrestored condition. There are only a few of this kind of  long flutes ever made. This flute is the only one for sale
in whole world.
P.O.A

huilun. Panauloneita valmistettiin erittäin vähän ja siksi
tämäkin huilu on sangen harvinainen. Huilu on tehty eebenholtista eli kovasta mustasta puusta ( Grenadilla ).
nismi on ajalle tyypillinen wieniläinen ns. simple system
järjestelmä, missä on kuitenkin käytetty luultavasti eng-
lantilaisten rakentajien esittelemää "pewter plugs" tiivisteitä läpissä. Hyvin harvinainen, ehkäpä ainoa Panaulon myytävänä maailmassa. Soitin on entisöimättömässä tilassa, alkuperäisessä kotelossa. Kotelon kunnosta päätellen sillä on kuitenkin soitettu paljon. Vain yksi läpän osa puuttuu. Muuten täydellinen huilu.

A special Schwedler F#- mechanism. Original good pads still on the flute. Almost unplayed instrument with lip plate made of black wood with reform wings. Body tubing of finest ebony. Short mouth piece tube of metal. One of the best Schwedler flutes I've ever seen.

Louis Lot, Paris, France, Number 633, made in
1861, a special wood flute

Louis Lot  PARIS, N.o 633 made in 1861.

This is  really a peculiar probably Cocus wood flute. It looks very German and has many features similar to Boehm, like the case, finger support (crutch ) etc., which Lot usually not used in his flutes. The original embouchure has been plugged and the new blowing hole carved looks very German. It is suggested that Lot and Boehm made flute parts for each other during the time when they both had so many orders to deliver. They are said to help a friend with parts manufacturing. It is known that Boehm ordered 30 pcs  wooden flute tubes from L.Lot, some without and some with finger holes. This flute has also a strange key work device. This clever system makes it possible to change an open hole flute to a closed one in a short time. I have never seen this type of method used in a transverse flute before. The Cocus wood tubing is very thin and light. The flute comes in original case, which is housing a crutch, which is a German device disliked by Lot and other French flute makers. There are clearly marks on the body of this flute telling us of  filled screw holes on a place where the crutch holder has been. Also the open G#-key system is strange. Lot has used the so called "Briccialdi"-keys for left hand thumb though, which Boehm didn't want to use in his flutes. The sounding length of the flute is 64,5 cm and total length 72,5 cm.Going to low B natural. This flute is not restored and needs still a lot of research.

Godfroy Ainé, Paris, France, metal flute probably by Frédéric Eléanor Godfroy

Frédéric Eléanor Godfroy, the eldest son of Clair Godfroy ainé. His work as a Boehm-flute maker is not very well known but probably he manufactured metal flutes in Paris as did his brother Vincént Hippolyte with Louis Lot. This flute is made ca.1865, open holes,  metal flute, possibly not silver, C- foot joint, soldered tone holes, all of the key cups decorated. Needing a total rebuild. A very strange flute with a lot of mysteries in it. Looks professional though, with pointed key cups etc. In a nice decorated original flute case.
 P.O.A

kannet on kauniisti koristeltu.
Soitin on alkuperäisessä kau-
niisti koristellussa kotelossa.

Huilun soiva pituus on
59,5 cm ja kokonaispituus 67,5 cm. Soitin tarvitsee täydellisen huolenpidon (tyynytys etc.) ennenkuin sen ominaisuuksista saa täydellisen käsityksen.

Prof.Romeo Orsi,Milan, Italy, hand made cocobolo flute with silver head.

Prof.Romeo Orsi, Milano Italy, Hand made concert flute with C-foot joint and silver head joint and Cocobolo wood body unitubing. ( no foot joint separately ) Head joint lip plate richly decorated with floral figures. All kind of doublings in mechanism like double G, double G# etc. The lowest note is C but there is a key to left pinky to reach low D# and C#. This is an extraordinary instrument and sounds really great.
This flute was displayed in Frankfurt Music Fair in 1970s, where I did purchased it. This flute was made for this exhibition only and I think that this flute is unique and one of its kind. The flute is practically unplayed and looks like new.

Theodor Piering, Magdeburg, Germany, a simple system metal
flute

Theodor Piering, Magdeburg Germany
This amazing silver flute is conical and made of seamed tube with simple system mechanism.
The keys have bee designed beautifully like dolphin tails. The flute is made probably before Boehm's 1847 model and that makes it more valuable as it is said that Boehm was the first to make metal concert flutes. The untouched embouchure is placed on a barrel like lip plate on the white metal head joint. There is a long slide in the mouth piece for tuning. This instrument is completely restored to a fine playing condition.
The body tubing is manufactured out of a very low silver alloy like  700/1000. This is a unique flute and there are no other like this in the world. The body is made of one long tube only, no foot.
I have never met a flute like this before. There are probably no similar flutes anywhere.

'

Mollenhauer, Cassel, Germany, Schwedler- Reform flute from late 19th century. This is one of the finest Schwedler-flutes I have ever seen. Restored by Mollenhauer Co. of today. There is a letter of provenance and the overhaul. The flute plays absolutely great. The original case is in perfect condition. The keys and head joint silver plate in immaculate condition. After the complete renovation the flute has probably been unplayed.
PRICE 3500 €
Mollenhauer, Cassel, Germany, Schwedler reformihuilu 1800-luvun lopulta.
Huilu soi todella hienosti. Alkuperäinen kotelo on upeassa kunnossa.

KARL KRUSPE, Leipzig Germany

Schwedler-flute from the second part of 19th century.
This flute in in unbelievable state of preservation.
The rollers in the foot joint are made out of coral. The silver plate in the metal parts is incredibly fine
in a flute as old as this. The case is looking quite worn though and the grease pot, screw driver and the drying and polishing rods are missing.
Kruspe collaborated with Schwedler when making
the early Schwedler-flutes. Later there were many
other manufacturers as well constructing this last rival to Boehm-flutes upon Schwedler's ideas. it is
difficult to believe that this flute was made more than 100 years ago.

         Heinrich Friedrich Meyer,
               Hannover, Germany

H.F.Meyer, Hannover, Germany
The basic flute of Romantic era. Most of the great symphonic and other art music has been composed for this kind of flute. Heinrich Friedrich Meyer's flute was copied by almost every flute maker in second part of 20th century. Typically there was a bone or ivory used in head joint. As typically the heads are always cracked because of the metal lining inside of the head. Meyer-flute has already quite many keys and the chromatic playing is much easier on this type of flute. Most of the genuine Meyer-flutes are very well intonated and the sound usually big and also loud if wished. Unfortunately the same can not be said of most of the copies, which very often are more or less out of tune. Sadly this has labeled most of the conical Meyer-types as no good. All of the true Meyers that I have tried have a very fine pitch and tuning can be mastered quite well.
This flute is in a lovely original case with a nice ivory grease pot. There is that normal hair crack in the head but no other cracks visible. The flute is in a nice playing condition and needs no further overhaul.
P.O.A

Romanttisen ajan perushuilu. Suurin osa sinfonia-ja taidemusiikista 1800-luvun jälkipuoliskolla on sävelletty tälle huilulle. Heinrich Friedrich Meyerin huilua kopioitiin laajasti lähes kaikkien tuon ajan rakentajien toimesta. Mayer-huiluissa on jo paljon kromatiikkaa helpottavia läppiä.
sunluisine rasvakuppeineen on edelleen käytössä. Koneisto toimii hienosti ja huilu soi matalaan H-ääneen asti helposti.

J.Ziegler, Vienna,Austria, a wooden conical Flute

An other J. Ziegler conical black wood flute, similar to the
Ziegler flute above but with black wood head joint. These
flutes were made before Meyer- Hannover flutes, and are predecessors to the major type of transverse flutes so popular until 20th century called Meyer-flutes.
Also this Ziegler is in fine state of preservation and plays
superbly. No case. A little bit higher pitch than the other
Ziegler above.
P.O.A

Toinen Zieglerin tekemä kartiohuilu. Tämä huilu on kokonaan mustasta kovasta puulajista ( Grenadilla )
valmistettu.
todella hyvin. Ei koteloa. Hieman korkeampi viritys kuin edellä esitellyssä Zieglerissä.
